In Arkansas, anyone can be treated directly by a physical therapist without referral or prescription from a doctor or dentist. However, some insurance companies require that for benefits to be paid, the patient must have a referral or prescription from their doctor or dentist. Check your policy for its requirements. Because many physicians and dentists have little information of physical therapy treatment, the patient sometimes will have to request a {prescription or referral} (Prescriptions can simply read: the perceived complaint diagnosis, instructions such as evaluate and treat or be as detailed as area(s) of complaint, coupled with frequency, duration, and suggestions for treatment. Because most referral sources don't know about Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy they usually will not write any more precise instruction unless there is a post-surgery protocol.) for treatment. Be assertive and trust your own sense of what can help, including physical therapy. Remember, it is your body and your insurance. Joseph Reagan, PT, MS, CMT treats a wide range of complaints and ages (see Services for details). Payments are received from insurance companies and patient prompt self-pay.
